Replication Timing: The Early Bird Catches the Worm
نویسندگان
چکیده
Different replication origins in eukaryotes are activated at different times during S phase. New work indicates that the time at which an origin fires is related to its ability to recruit replication initiation factors that are limiting within the cell.

In DNA Replication, the Early Bird Catches the Worm
The initiation of DNA replication is a complex, multistep process with important implications for genomic stability. In this issue, Wu and Nurse (2009) find that initiation factors are differentially recruited to replication origins. They uncover evidence suggesting that the efficiency of this recruitment may determine whether and when an origin is used to initiate DNA replication in S phase.

Cell Timer/Cell Clock
Like the biological clock in the body, replication of each cell type (even different cells of the same organism) follows a timing program. Abnormal function of this timer could be an alarm for a disease like cancer. DNA replication starts from a specific point on the chromosome that is called the origin of replication. In contrast to prokaryotes in which DNA replication starts from a single ...

متن کاملCan the early bird catch the worm? Effects of early rising on leukocyte subsets via modification of autonomic nervous system and the effect on glucose levels
The importance of sleep has been described in proverbs such as “the early bird catches the worm”. However, there are few scientific reports on the effects of early rising. Therefore, early risers (Group E) and late risers (Group L) were compared and the number and ratio of leukocytes, body temperature, glucose and its associated hormones were studied. Furthermore, each group was divided into tw...
